NYC OFFICIAL PROPOSES FREE SCHOOL LUNCH FOR ALL
New York City’s Public Advocate, Letitia James, recently said that all New York City students should be able to receive free school lunch, as a way of battling the stigma associated with free and reduced-price school meals. Currently, about 530,000 students in the city receive free or reduced-price lunch, while 250,000 are eligible but don’t participate. Carmen Farina, Schools Chancellor, said she welcomes the idea. Dallas, Chicago and Boston offer free lunch to students regardless of family income.
