Power of the Purse luncheon

Today I attended the "Power of the Purse" luncheon put together by the Women's Leadership Council of the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.

What an amazing and powerful event!  More than 1,200 people attended this fundraising event and the vast majority were women!

Our speaker was Dr. Teraerai Trent, whose story was so inspiring.  Born in a small village in Zimbabwe, she had little education and was married by age eleven!  But she held fast to her dream of going to America and getting an education and now holds a PhD.  She works to build schools in Zimbabwe and to help ensure that the girls and women of that country are able to achieve their potential.

A wonderful choice of speaker for this luncheon, which raises money to help ensure that women and their families have the tools they need to be financially secure.
