Newington Night with the Rock Cats!

Newington Night was held on Wednesday June 17th at the New Britain Rock Cats game. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Rick Donegan, Store Manager of the Stop and Shop at Kitts Lane in Newington, the Newington Night celebration included recognition of the Newington Hunger Action Team with a team photo on the field.

Initiated by Barb Womer, local resident of Newington, and coordinated by Beatrice Maslowski, Community Network Builder at Foodshare, the Newington Hunger Action Team (HAT) began meeting one year ago. In addition to Stop and Shop and Foodshare, the Newington HAT includes representatives from the Newington Food Bank, Newington Senior and Disabled Center, People's Bank, Rock Cats, Kiwanis, Masons, and local faith based partners. HAT Volunteers were able to distribute information about Newington Social Services, and how to apply for SNAP benefits (formerly known as the Food Stamp Program). They also accepted food donations for the Newington Food Bank.
