In The Spotlight: Sysco

SYSCO is a not only a large food distributor with a facility in Rocky Hill, but it is also the home of a great team of individuals who come together each week to aid us in the fight to end hunger. Since 1999, SYSCO has supported Foodshare with donations of food they have been unable to use. Last year this amounted to a whopping 253,000+ pounds! But the story doesn’t end there.

Each year when we need support and participation in our Convoy of Caring SYSCO is always happy to participate, with a truck in the Convoy and their team at the Recognition Breakfast, showcasing the important role played by members of the food industry in our mission. In addition each Fall, SYSCO provides paper products for our Empty Bowls event in Manchester.

It is often said that leadership helps to set the tone and create the culture in an organization. There’s no doubt that Bob McMakin, President and CEO, does all he can to inspire community service. Bob not only volunteers at Foodshare, playing an integral role in our Food Industry Council, but he is also the one responsible for designing some of the most attractive team t-shirts for Walk day! These tie-dyed shirts that team members sport each year at our Annual Walk Against Hunger have been a subject of conversation, and maybe even a little jealous banter. Each year the SYSCO Hunger Stompers are in full attire walking with so many others, making a difference, and raising money to help Foodshare.

SYSCO once again epitomizes community involvement and means so much to all of us throughout the year. Thank you Bob. Thank You SYSCO. Thank you SYSCO Hunger Stompers!
