Fresh produce, how to use it?

Over one-third of the food that Foodshare distributes is fresh produce!  But sometimes, the people who need food assistance don't know what to do with certain items.  (Hey, sometimes I see an item of produce that I don't know what to do with!)

So, one of our summer interns developed a set of recipe cards for the common vegetables that we regularly distribute.  The cards are being handed out at the Mobile Foodshare sites and are also available on the Foodshare website.

This morning, I received this note from Lorie Reardon, the Dietician at the Charter Oak Health Center in Hartford:

As I write this note, we are providing fresh produce to our patients for the National Health Center Week.  We are so grateful and the recipes could not come at a better time.  Each person receiving a bag of the fresh produce was given a recipe as well.  People are taking items they normally would not.

Thank you for your support with this yearly project!  Thank you for the Super Job!

Lorie
