Happy Volunteers!

Helen and Wally are volunteers who recover food (and non-food) every Friday from the ShopRite of Canton.  I’m not sure I’d have as big a grin on my face as they do on theirs if I was trying to fit all those boxes in my car.

Here’s just two  volunteers of the so many other great ones we have involved in this program, preparing to deliver the food to Gifts of Love in Avon, and still having time to talk with the folks at ShopRite!

  1. Hi Gloria,

Thanks for putting the two pictures on your blog.

FYI, when we get to this part of the weekly pickup at ShopRite in Canton, the hard work is done, and it's easy to smile. All we do at this point in the process is load the boxes in my van and Helen's car, and head 3.4 miles east to Gifts of Love in Avon.

The hard part is getting the "totes" out of the huge walk-in freezer, inspecting each item (based on our food safety course), rubbing out the bar code and putting a FoodShare label on each meat item, putting everything (meat and baked goods) in banana boxes, weighing each box, recording all the data, putting the totes away, and then wheeling the loaded U-boat down the ramp to our vehicles.

But it's fun, and satisfying, and I plan to do it for a long time.

    Keep up the good work.

    Wally Banzhaf
