For some low-income people, especially those without air conditioning and with underlying health problems, the forecast of temperatures topping 90 degrees for the next few days and be a huge problem. Some Connecticut towns are opening cooling centers to help keep residents safe. To find a cooling center for yourself or a neighbor, dial 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org. Check back periodically for updates to the list.
Remember, you can always visit a library, theater, shopping mall or other community facility to get a break from the heat. The state Department of Public Health reminds state residents that extreme temperatures can be dangerous, especially for older adults, young children and people who work outdoors.
