Nuns on a Bus tour rolls into Washington on the 4th of July

A throng of admirers crammed in front of the United Methodist building across from the U.S. Capitol, waiting in the 95 degree heat for the Nuns on the Bus. This was the last stop of a 15-day tour through nine states, with opposition to the service cuts in the Ryan-House budget the theme. Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, wouldn't lead an enterprise like this just to oppose something. The Nuns on the Bus were there to celebrate the work of agencies across the country that utilize federal funding to help the poor with love and respect and effective skill, and to promote an alternative vision.  (for the rest: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/deborah-weinstein/nuns-on-the-bus_b_1646536.html)

  1. "This is all the Holy Spirit. If it had been us doing this, we would have had cut-out felt letters on a Prius."

  2. "The nuns made their way from the bus to a stage backed by a huge American flag. Eye of the Tiger blared from the speakers. It was a bit funny to hear the theme song from Rocky III accompanying an entrance by seven nuns. But it was also fitting. At a time when our politics is marked by canned speech, rehearsed talking points, and predictable rhetoric, the sisters are dedicated to something that is as courageous as it is unusual..."
