Diversity in the workplace

Foodshare's Diversity Committee visited the Walgreens distribution center in Windsor last week.   Walgreens is a regular donor of food and personal care products to Foodshare, but they demonstrated true parnethsip with Foodshare with this gathering.

Joe Wendover, who heads up the Walgreens Diversity Committee at the Windsor facility, provided a diversity training session and a tour of the distribution center.

The Diversity Committee watched a 6 minute video highlighting a few of the Walgreens employees with disabilities. Currently in their Windsor building, nearly half of the employees have some kind of disability.

Foodshare staff learned that Walgreens has no tolerance for discrimination. Everyone is held to the same standards, no one is treated differently.

Our Diversity Committee came away with a number of ideas about how Foodshare might do a better job in our diversity efforts and we look forward to implementing some of them!
