A special delivery

We had a call yesterday from an elderly West Hartford resident who had heard about the need and wanted to help, but could not drive to Foodshare to make the donation.  Brand new Foodshare employee, Meredith agreed to stop by this woman's home and pick up the donation and here's what Meredith told me this morning:

"Yesterday, I received a message from a West Hartford resident named Eleanor.  She had heard the story about the West Hartford family who had called Foodshare to request a turkey, as this year had been more financially straining than others.  Eleanor wanted to help, but could not drive to Bloomfield, so I went to her.

"When I arrived at Eleanor's house she popped her trunk and I was genuinely blown away by the amount of yellow grocery bags, it was stuffed to the brim.  She wasn't kidding when she said she bought a large Thanksgiving meal for six, complete with stuffing, rolls, cranberries, potatoes, onions, apples, candied yams, peas and a 15 lb. turkey!

"This being only my second week at Foodshare, it was incredibly moving to meet Eleanor and see firsthand the generosity of those whose truly want to help."
