Cuts to SNAP threatened

We need your help this week with a critically-important “SNAP Action."  Please ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor H. Res. 90.  This resolution – introduced by Representatives Jim McGovern (D-MA),  Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Ted  Deutch (D-FL), George Miller (D-CA) and Marcia Fudge (D-OH) – expresses the Sense of the House of Representatives that the Committee on Agriculture and the House of Representatives should oppose cuts to SNAP, formerly called Food Stamps.

The House Republican Budget Resolution was just introduced by Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).  It recycles his past proposal to block grant and cut SNAP (see FRAC Statement: FY2014 Ryan Budget Proposes to Increase Poverty and Hunger, Injure Health and Learning).

On the Senate side, S. 458, introduced by Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS), is a draconian bill that also attacks SNAP.

As federal budget deliberations and Farm Bill reauthorization efforts heats up, these proposals underscore that we must keep up the pressure to demonstrate the importance of the SNAP program to our families and communities and to ask our federal legislators for their support to strengthen and protect SNAP.
