First Team Signs Up for Walk Against Hunger

The Gifts of Love 2012 Walk Team
This week, registration for the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger opened and teams were eager to sign up!  The very first team to register was one of the Benefiting Programs, Gifts of Love in Avon.  We love their enthusiasm, and hope many more groups will take their lead!

Gifts of Love helps meet basic needs like food, fuel and household goods, for individuals and families in Central Connecticut, who are experiencing a financial crisis.  These are hardworking people who simply can’t make ends meet, and the goal is to help them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.

Here’s a quick Q&A with Gifts of Love Marketing & Development Director, Carolyn McGrattan:

How many years has Gifts of Love been a part of the Walk?
We have been a Walk team since 2009 but have been part of the Walk since 2007 – the first Gifts of Love walk participants were me and my then 6-year old daughter!

What is your favorite aspect of Walk day?
It is amazing to be there with so many people and a large Gifts of Love team. Seeing the team grow from 2 to over 60 has been fantastic and a huge source of pride for our organization! And it is something that I can do with my kids and last year even my mom walked with us! It is a family event that we can all get behind.

How many walkers are you hoping to recruit this year?
100?! 1000?! We want to be as big as Hands on Hartford! Someday . . .

Many thanks to the Gifts of Love team, and best of luck with your fundraising!
