Walmart Neighborhood Market- Our Newest Retail Pick-up Donor

Last week WalMart opened a Neighborhood Market in West Hartford.  This is a full service grocery store with a large variety of fresh produce, meat, dairy, deli and a pharmacy.  Foodshare was very happy to be the recipient of a very large donation before the store even opened- we received 11 pallets (totaling over 11,000 pounds) of beautiful fresh produce.  A large portion of this was purchased by Walmart as a gift for Foodshare.  We received a full assortment: pineapple, papaya, mangos,  mushrooms, lettuce, grapes, potatoes, pears, oranges, lemons and limes.

This store, along with the nine other Walmart stores in our service area, is participating in the Foodshare’s Retail Pick up Program.  Foodshare volunteers starting recovering unsalable (but edible) food from Neighborhood Market this week, and that donated food is being distributed through five of our partner programs.  Store manager, Stacy McCarty, comes to CT after managing a WalMart SuperCenter in MA.  As manager there, Stacy worked closely with her Feeding America partners and knows the difference this program will make in our community.

Thank you Walmart!
Just a portion of the donation!
