Food companies donate 80% of the food that Foodshare distributes each year (most of the balance comes from government programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program, with less than 5% coming from a combination of food drives and purchasing). So a big part of our annual Food Industry Convoy of Caring is recognizing those food companies who donate the food day in and day out.
This year, we asked the local pantries, community kitchens, and other organizations that receive food from Foodshare to share their words of thanks with the food industry as part of the Convoy of Caring program. Here’s just a small sample of what they had to say:
“The Salvation Army would like to thank everyone involved with the Convoy of Caring for all the help given to us and all the agencies that help to end hunger in Connecticut and throughout the country. With us all partnering together, we can reach everyone that is in need of help.”

“Thank you very much for your continued generous donations. What we receive has helped tremendously to keep our Food Bank stocked with a variety of nutritious foods, helping us to continue to provide supplemental food assistance to over 500 households in our community. ”

“We are very grateful for the multitude of donations of food we receive. They have greatly increased the amount of nutritious items we are able to offer. Our members have expressed how much the food helps them on a daily basis. They have stated on numerous occasions that the meat, dairy, and fresh produce are something that is so difficult to get when you live on a limited budget as they do, and they have on a regular basis chosen to take home the variety of produce we now receive. We at CHR Clubhouse and our members send a big thank you.”
