Local farmer donates, volunteers pick, fresh corn!
Bob Handel from Homestead Farm Dairy on Forbes Street in East Hartford has been inviting Foodshare to glean at his corn field for many years. Gleaning is a term that means harvesting the surplus crops to give to the poor and the concept dates to ancient times.
Today a group of 14 employees of The Hartford spent part of their day picking corn, which the staff from Foodshare then came by to pick up.
Thanks to Bob and thanks to the great volunteers who made this happen!
