PRINCIPALS LIKE BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM

A new report finds that elementary school principals believe Breakfast in the Classroom is the best way to increase the number of students starting the day with school breakfast. According to the report more than three in four principals would encourage their peers to consider this program. Principals noted an increase in breakfast participation (85%), fewer reports of student hunger (61%), fewer tardy students (40%), improved student attentiveness (37%), and an improved school (34%) and classroom (35%) environment. Only half of the low-income children who participate in school lunch eat school breakfast. Breakfast in the Classroom erases barriers to participation by making breakfast part of the school day and moving it out of the cafeteria and into the classroom.
