C-SPAN TO COVER SNAP AND FOOD INSECURITY TOMORROW
About 47 million Americans (1 in 7) get assistance from SNAP. The 80% increase since 2007 reflects higher food insecurity and unemployment in the wake of the recession. Find out more on Feb. 14 at approximately 8:45-9:30 a.m. as Mark Nord, a sociologist in the Food Assistance Branch at USDA’s Economic Research Service, discusses statistics about food insecurity, the use of SNAP, and relationships between food insecurity and SNAP use in the wake of the 2007-2009 recession. Each Friday, C-SPAN's "America by the Numbers" highlights trends and allows the public to call in or email their views.
