Stop & Shop donates food, funds, and volunteer time!

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to meet with Glenn Hogan, Regional Manager at Stop & Shop, along with District Managers Frank Sacchi and Ken Burroughs to thank them for all that they do for Foodshare.

As part of the Meat the Need program, the 25 Stop & Shop stores in our service area donated food that provided  384,225 meals in 2013!  But their contribution and participation doesn’t stop there.  In addition they also:

·         Raised $75,000 from the local community as part of the Food for Friends campaign which provided a month’s worth of meals for 2500 people!

·         Partnered with the New England Dairy Council, raising funds for the Great Gallon Give that allowed us to distribute 4,600 half gallons of milk on our Mobile trucks in late December

·         Raised another $14,000 in their annual Golf Tournament that allowed us to feed 467 people for an entire month

·         Donated 1000 turkeys for Thanksgiving

·         Formed their own Walk Teams in the Walk Against Hunger

·         Sent volunteers from the individual stores to help sort produce and bread at our warehouse

·         Collected turkeys from the community at several locations for our annual Turkey and a Thirty campaign

·         Filled their Stop & Shop truck with food as they participated in the 2013 Convoy of Caring- providing an additional 12,913 meals!

Also, through a $450,000 pledge over three years which we received from Stop & Shop’s Our Family Foundation, we have been able to hire two Network Builders to who are establishing Hunger Action Teams in towns throughout Hartford and Tolland Counties.
