USDA is giving 24 states and tribal nations $34 million to expand use of electronic benefit transfer (EBT) systems in WIC, as well as to replace and improve management information systems to promote greater efficiencies in WIC clinics. The grants will bring the WIC program closer to achieving nationwide EBT use by October 2020, as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Currently, only nine states and four Indian tribal organizations offer WIC benefits solely using EBT.
