2nd Annual HAT Symposium

The second annual Hunger Action Team (HAT) Symposium was held on Tuesday 1/13 at Foodshare. Over 50 hunger action team members attended the event which included representatives from 14 of Foodshare’s 15 HATs. Gloria Mengual, from Everyday Democracy, kicked off the morning with a video and presentation about the power local communities to enact change. CIGNA’s Technology Development Team shared their work on a survey to determine why only 1 in 4 eligible CT children come to a summer meals site. There were updates from each of the teams activities during 2014 including exciting information on school garden expansion, urban concrete gardens, local gleaning activities, and neighborhood food surveys. There was time after the meeting for informal networking and tours of Foodshare. Members left the meeting excited to take new ideas back to their local teams.
