This week Foodshare received a generous donation of shoes from Target
Stores. Sometimes people ask why a food bank accepts and distributes
non-food items and the answer is simple: A person who is hungry is most
likely living in poverty, and a person living in poverty is struggling
in many other areas of their lives. If Foodshare can occasionally
provide these other items, such as shoes or laundry detergent or
toiletries, we always will. Having a new pair of shoes might mean having
a little extra confidence when going to a job interview. It might make
waiting in the cold for the city bus a little more bearable. And for the
small girl who will be the recipient of those red sparkle shoes…well,
that reaction will be just priceless.
