Every year since Price Chopper entered the Connecticut Market, this family owned company has chosen Hartford as the site for their annual management meeting and food show. With over 100 stores in the chain and 1 representative from each store’s 10 departments, the crowd is often over 1,000 participants for the three day event. During the food show, an area of the convention center is set-up like a supermarket where food and grocery suppliers display their products. Encouraged to interact with their suppliers, the managers spend a good deal of time traversing the showroom floor learning more about new as well as existing products carried in their stores.
As part of their food show agreement these food companies agree to donate all leftover food to the area food bank once the show ends. This year’s event ended last night and Foodshare volunteers with the aid of both the Price Chopper and Convention Center staff recovered over 31,000 pounds of food (which is the equivalent of over 23,000 meals.) Once again Price Chopper thought of turning a very important event for its management into an event to help the community, too.
Thank you, Price Chopper, for filling the aisles at Foodshare today!
