NEW USDA WEBSITE HELPS CONSUMERS EAT HEALTHY, SAVE MONEY
Healthy Eating on a Budget (http://www.choosemyplate.gov/budget/index.html) the newest addition to USDA’s ChooseMyPlate.gov, includes easy-to-use information about planning meals, smart grocery shopping, and preparing foods that save money and time in the kitchen. Consumers who visit the site (1) will learn ways to plan, purchase, and prepare healthy meals; (2) find tips and strategies to help save money and plan a healthier diet; and (3) learn how to use unit pricing, read food labels to compare items, and check sales on store brands. A new cookbook features 25 recipes from SNAP and two-week menus based on a 2,000-calorie diet to help individuals and families plan meals.
