In The Spotlight: Highland Park Market

One of the great pleasures we have at Foodshare is to work daily with great people and wonderful organizations who step up every day asking “what can we do for Foodshare today?” One such organization is Highland Park Market. Owned by the Devanney family since 1958, they have always taken pride in ‘immersing ourselves into the community and providing support to local organizations and charities’.

The Highland Park Market team, with Tim Devanney as President, has been supporting Foodshare and its mission to end hunger since 1996! In the past two plus years, they have gone from donating food through food drives to starting their own meat recovery program with Foodshare. This very important program is one way to help provide people who are food insecure with nutritious food and a great source of protein. In 2009 Highland Park Markets (working with WDRC) were responsible for collecting almost 1,700 turkeys and raising over $23,000 during our Turkey and a Twenty Campaign! All together, in 2009, Highland Park Markets donated more than 21,600 lbs. of food!

Their sense of community and commitment doesn’t begin or end with Thanksgiving. The team at Highland Park Markets ‘get it’. Hunger doesn’t take a holiday and neither do they. This year they participated in our Convoy of Caring and in 2011 will also embark on a fundraising campaign with a percentage of proceeds from items sold during the year being donated to Foodshare so that we can continue to both support existing programs and create new ones.

Thanks to the Devanney family and Highland Park Markets for going above and beyond!
