People are hearing our urgent appeals via various media this morning...
A woman e-mailed Scot Haney at WFSB Channel 3 after hearing his appeal on the news this morning and said she is heading out to buy ten turkeys to donate.
A woman called, said she was in her car and heard on the radio that some people might not have turkeys this year. She told us that it's her first winter in Connecticut and she was so shocked that she pulled off the road in tears. She then made a $500 donation to help us out.
A local business owner and former member of the Foodshare Board of Directors called after gettting an e-mail from me and offered to donate 500 turkeys, if we could find a place to buy them. We're not sure we can, but we are pulling out all the stops with all the local food companies to see if it's possible. I'll update you later if we do.
Another Foodshare Board member got my e-mail, left his office, bought five turkeys and delivered them right to Foodshare.
In addition, one of the partner agencies, Farrell Treatment Center, heard of our situation this morning and rather than coming to pick up the turkeys we were planning to give them today, they want us to distribute them to another agency to make sure there are enough for all.
Another agency, the Windsor Food and Fuel Bank has ten extra turkeys, so instead of saving them for a Christmas distribution, they are sending them back to Foodshare.
The Enfield Food Shelf also has extra turkeys that were donated directly to them and plans to return those to Foodshare.
Current number still needed: 1,482 - Every turkey will count today!

10:30 AM update: 1,122 turkeys still needed. Every turkey counts!
